"I've been thinking a lot about our Asian American community for awhile, and how we've been represented in the media and how we've come out in support of #goldopen
like with @thefarewell
. But we can't keep waiting for Hollywood & whatever bigwigs to green-light AsAm centric projects in order for us to go support it.
We all know how shitty our statistics have been and the low percentage of us behind and in front of the camera in mainstream film & TV. But there's so many AsAm indie filmmakers and AsAm centered series & films that aren't getting the same attention and support BUT are shown throughout festivals like @omniculturaltv
. Think about doing #goldopen
for those because if Hollywood sees that's where the attention's at, best believe they'll come running.
While I'd love for y'all to come through to our East Coast premiere in September, consider ALSO showing up to AsAm centered events like at the Caveat with @yauangel
, inclusive sketch shows like @overstepcomedy
and so much more, because we need each other to show up in order to get to the next level instead of just looking to Constance Wu, Awkwafina, etc to keep representing us. Let's give each other a #goldopen
