Parade route past the stately, 300 room Portland Hotel in the late 1930s. The hotel hosted 11 US Presidents during its six decades and the elegant Palm Room restaurant was the center of Portland’s social scene. It was demolished in 1951 to become a parking garage which was subsequently demolished in the early 1980s to become Pioneer Courthouse Square.
This guy made it easy for me to date this collection: 1939. We’re just coming off of the tail end of the Great Depression and moving quickly towards WWII and at least one of these guys looks a bit stunned by it all.
